The Silicon Valley invests in fake meat
The research on food has delivered impressive results in the past decade. It seems that the next step will be replacing animal protein with plant protein to satisfy the vegan/vegetarian consumers and those who want to eat less meat. The most interesting project at the moment is called Beyond Meat and I’m sure we’ll hear a lot about it.
Here’s how the product is introduced on the website:
Say hello to Beyond Meat™ Chicken-Free Strips. These delicious plant-based strips have all of the convenience, taste, and tenderness you expect from real chicken—without the bad stuff (no saturated or trans fat, no cholesterol, no gluten, no antibiotics, no GMOs…and no meat). It’s a humane protein upgrade that will fool your taste buds while helping your health and the environment.
This is not the first time we witness the creation of a product that challenges real food for taste and quality. What’s interesting about Beyond Meat is the fact that – as noted by Slate magazine – the company is backed by Obvious Corp. (headed by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone) and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the Silicon Valley venture capital firm behind Zynga, Groupon, Flipboard, Path, Spotify and other popular Web-related platforms.
