These verses opened my eyes

Some an army of horsemen, some an army on foot
and some say a fleet of ships is the fairest thing
on this dark Earth; but I say it is whatever you love.

I was a young high school student and I had just discovered some things about myself, things that frightened me. But one day my professor asked me to read these verses by Sappho in class. I did it, I translated them from Greek and I felt like somebody shared the most precious secret in the universe with me.
